Everybody talks about it, everybody is affected by it - the weather. Do I need the heavy coat today, or is a wind breaker sufficient? Should I take the umbrella or not? Observing the weather is a fascinating occupation for all nature lovers and a very interesting extension to the hobby, not only for radio amateurs. So what's more obvious than to install your own weather monitor?

Peet Bros. company is a manufacturer of premium weather stations. The offered systems differ vastly from the cheap weather displays which you find at any department store - in quality and in the nearly endless possibilities. The sensors are individually made and hand calibrated for best accuracy. A large number of options allows you to build up your personal weather station up to a nearly professional system.

Overview Peet Bros. Weather stations

Peet Bros. offers three basic models of weather stations: the Ultimeter® 100, Ultimeter® 800 and Ultimeter® 2100. The capabilities and possible options for each device is shown in the table below.

Wind vane and anemometer (Pro version) included
With each Ultimeter weather station a reliable weather vane, an anemometer (Wind speed, 'Pro' version)) and an outdoor thermometer is included. An optional rain gauge can be connected to any of the models. Further sensors can be connected to the model 800 and 2100.

Long term menory
The long term memory offers the possiblity to record min. and max. values over a longer time period and recall them on request. Nine memories record the daily extremes, those of the last 7 days amd one more permanent record.

Connection of sensors
Like with all professional weather equipment, the sensors are connected by cable, and not wireless. This results in much better reliability and faster update rates. All sensors are connected to a central junction box, which also supplies all devices with power. The computer or APRS radio can be connected to the junction box or to the display unit.

Long cables supplied
All units and options come with extra long cables for ease of installation: 12m for the wind vane/anemometer, 7.5m for the outdoor temperature sensor. The cable between the junction box and the disply/keybiard unit is 240cm long, the power supply cable 180cm. Alle data cables can be extended very easily and to nearly any length, if required.
The wind vane/anemomenter is best installed on top of a mast (not to the side), we are happy to offer you a suitable mast tube. Since this sensor works with magnetic reed contacts a non-magnetic tube is preferred (aluminium, stainless steel or similiar).

Ideal for APRS:
Several APRS ready radios, like the new Kenwood TM-D710E offers a direct connection for Peet weather stations. Go on the air in no time with your personal APRS weather broadcast. Works also with WxTrak APRS for practically any other radio, or with a usual Packet Radio TNC.

Of course all Peet Weather Stations are suitable for european power systems, a 230V power supply is included. The units of all weather data is selectable, for example °C or °F, metric system, nautical system or imperial system for other values.
For permanent backup of settings and long term memories a 9V block batteryis required (not included).

The ULTIMETER TB Rain Gauge features a proven tipping bucket design. Inside each rain gauge is a balanced "see-saw" bucket mechanism. The bucket has a divider wall across the middle, separating it into two halves, each shaped like a miniature coal shovel, with high sides and an open end. The rain gauge's funnel top feeds rain water into one of the half-buckets. As soon as the correct amount of water has been collected, the "see-saw" tips the other way, automatically emptying the water and positioning the other half-bucket for collecting rainfall. Each time the bucket tips, .01" of rainfall is added to the accumulated total on the ULTIMETER weather station. 8-inch diameter collector funnel, for superior rainfall sampling.

The ULTIMETER Outdoor Humidity/Temperature Sensor utilizes a precision thick-film polymer capacitance device to measure humidity. The sensor is used in a low-frequency oscillator circuit, which changes frequency as the relative humidity of the air changes. The output of the oscillator is fed into the microprocessor. The ULTIMETER Temperature Sensor is a precision aged interchangeable thermistor. Designed for under-eaves mounting, out of direct sun exposure.

The indoor thermometer is attached directly to the display unit and enanbles the display and recording of temperatures at the location of the control unit. The same hi quality preaged thermistor sensor is used for best accuracy.

Usually the outdoor sensors are connected with one cable each to the indoor junction box. So that's two or three flat, small cables which have to be fed through the wall. If that is not possible the "Single Cable Kit" helps. Here a weatherproof outdoor junction box is used to collect all cables from sensors, one cable leads indoors.

Note:
The Single Cable Kit does not contain cables. You need one cable from the outdoor junction box to the indoor display unit! Required is an 8 wire cable, a normal Ethernet cable will do fine.

WeatherText® Tools is a Windows PC application which enhances the capabilities of WeatherText®:

• WeatherText® Data Logger: a data acquisition tool which generates and archives log files of weather data in two convenient file formats: .txt (for convenient viewing using word processor or IE) and .csv (for instant analysis, charting, and graphing on Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet program)
• WeatherText® Internet: an FTP utility which transfers the WeatherText™ reports to a web server at scheduled intervals (in both .txt and .csv file formats).

Weather Outlook is a windows program for graphical presentation and archiving of the data from Peet Ultimeter Weather Stations. The software enables you to prepare various reports, data can be exported in tabular or graphical form.

Weather Outlook is compatible to 'Weather Modem' by Peet Bros. and works with all current Windows versions. The display con be configured in many ways. Requires at least a 233MHz Pentium computer with 64MB RAM, and 15MB free storage space on the disk. Supported Windows versions: Win95, Win98, NT, XP, Vista and Win7. Includes 4.5m cable for serial computer port.

The cable is intended for indoor use, because the connectors are not weatherproof. When used outdoors please protect the connectors accordingly. If necessary several of tehse cables can be used for evry long extensions.
