'Radio Mate' - Ext. keyboard for FT-817/FT-857/FT-897

The Radio Mate compact keypad for the Yaesu FT817, FT857 and FT897 enables the user to get the best out of their radio. It has been designed to make many of the common functions quick and easy to use. The keypad does this with a number of fast, effective shortcuts. The keypad is mounted on a sturdy aluminium plate giving it a quality robust feel, enabling it to be used in the field. Requiring no external power, it connects to the 8pin CAT interface of the radio. An LED indicates the current mode, red for the memory mode, green for the direct frequency entry mode and yellow for the modulation mode.

It is also suitable for people who find some of the controls on their radio difficult to use.The Radio Mate compact keypad enables the following shortcuts to be initiated:

• Quick easy band change at touch of a button (by using the onboard memories)
• Quick and easy modulation selection in any mode to any mode by a single selection

When using the F817-KBD on a FT-897/857 you cannot use a tuner FC-30 or FC-40 simultaneously, because the tuners requrie exclusive access to the CAT interface.
Workaround: Use the compatible LDG tuner AT-897plus instead of the FC-30.

Yaesu's popular FT-857 and FT-897 transceivers are wonders of compact efficiency. These do-anything, go-anywhere transceivers were science fiction just a few years ago, but ham's today are using them in shacks, mobiles and on dxpeditions from the back yard to the top of the world.

About the only problem with these radios is that us hams who are old enough to remember when stuff like this really was science fiction are also old enough to wish that the display was just little bit bigger. As we grow in wisdom and experience, we also grow to depend on bifocals; those tiny little screens are just plain hard to read! Add to that a strong desire to see a real live meter needle bouncing on voice peaks, and you find yourself wishing Yaesu had thought all this through when they designed the radio.

Well, in fact they did. A little known feature of these radios, noticed only by compulsive manual readers, is a meter jack on the bottom of the front panel. You have to figure that Yaesu knew they needed a bigger display all along, but just left it as an exercise for the user. Well, help is here! The LDG FT-Meter is a low-cost, plug-and-play solution to all your FT metering needs.

The FT-Meter presents a lush, highly readable 2.5" meter face (illuminated) with calibrated scales for signal strength and discriminator reading on receive, and power output, SWR, modulation, ALC action and supply voltage on transmit. CAT-Mate

Electronic port doubler for the CAT interface on FT-817/857/897
If you want to use more than one device on the CAT interface, for example logging program and antenna controller or an external keyboard. CAT-Mate provides two CAT connectors and receives CAT commands from both inputs, the reply from the radio is directed to the socket where the last command came from. CAT port activity is shown with a LED. Further the CAT-Mate has an integrated RS-232 interface, to connect to a serial port only a normal serial cable is required (replaces CT-62). The CAT-Mate does not require a power supply.

Note: The CAT-MATE is not suitable when using a tuner (such as the FC-30, FC-40 etc.) on the FT-857/D or FT-897/D that uses the radio's Tune function/button and the CAT port of the radio for control.

When using the CAT-MATE on a FT-857/897 you cannot use a tuner FC-30 or FC-40 at the same time. This is because the tuners require exclusive use of the CAT interface. Workaround: Use the LDG AT-897plus tuner instead of the FC-30.

ATAS-120A Mobile antenna

Counterpoise kit for ATAS-100/ATAS-120

The well known antennas by Yaesu were designed as car antennas, still they are often used as stationary antennas as well because they are very compact. But then there is no suitable counterpoise, the balcony rail or magnet base are usually not sufficient.

The ATAS counterpoise consists of a solid aluminium ring which is attached to the base of the antenna and can remain attached even when mosing the antenna around. The ring has threads for 8 radial rods, each with a diameter of 4mm. This is no perfect counterpoise, but still efficient enough for portable operations and ease of use. If space allows you can install longer wire radials for the 40m band.

The counterpoise can also be used on a car, for example when the magnet base has not enough capacitive coupling to the chassis.

Ideal for the heavy antenna are bases like 11115.01 and 20029.

MFJ-1925 control unit for ATAS antenna

The ham world has found the perfect HF/ VHF antenna for mobile/portable operation . . . the Yaesu ATAS Screwdriver Antenna.
. . . But you can’t use the antenna unless you have the MFJ-1925 antenna controller.

MFJ made it possible for the popular Yaesu ATAS series antenna to be used with other radios such as the IC-706, TS-50 and others. This small MFJ unit is installed in-line between the antenna and rig. It provides the necessary voltage to move the antenna up or down when controller is pressed accordingly.

MFJ-1925I2 is specially designed for the Icom IC-706. It’s a perfect match for the 706 and the Yaesu screwdriver antenna. It has a special 706 control cable with 4-pin connector that mates with the 706 controller port.

When the up/down switch is pressed on the controller, the 706 automatically transmits in low power and turns the antenna for low SWR. When the lowest SWR is found, simply release the tune switch on the MFJ controller. Now you’re ready to operate. SWR is monitored by the meter on the 706.

MFJ-1925/I2 is simple to install. No modification to the radio or antenna is necessary. SO-239 connectors for radio and antenna connections. MFJ-1925 has connection for 13.6 VDC power. MFJ-1925I2 has 4-pin connector for the 706 antenna port.

Many recent transceivers offer a "Tune" or"AT" button - which does only work when an external antenna tuner is installed. Now if you want to tune a manual tuner or antenna you have to switch to CW or FM, reduce power, push PTT, tune, then revert back to the mode and power level where you came from. Not very convenient and very time consuming.

Here the TuneRite steps in and offers great help. The following radios are supported:

• All Icom with 4 pin tuner socket (IC-703, 706, 718, 736, 746, 7400, 756, 756ProI/II/III, 765, 775, 7000 etc.)
• All Kenwood with 6 pin tuner socket ( TS-50, 450, 850, 950, 570, 2000, 480 etc.)
• Yaesu FT-100, FT-450, FT-950, FT-857(D) and FT-897(D). FT-450 and FT-950 require a solder bridge inside Tunerite.

TuneRite is very easy to install: With an Icom or Kenwood, just plug it into the tuner socket on the rear, a power supply is not required. With the Yaesu rigs TuneRite is connected to the CAT socket, a cable is supplied. Further the Tunerite for Yaesu offers a connection for Icom compatible tuners.

With the TuneRite installed you just push "Tune" or "AT" on your rig, the radio now sends a continous carrier at reduced power level. At the end of tuning the previously selected mode and power level is back. This eases the tuning process very much, be it with a manual or automatic tuner, or a screwdriver antenna like the Tarheel antennas.

Note: When using the TUNERITE-KW on a TS-480HX (HX, not SAT!), the radio 'thinks' it has a kenwood tuner connected. Since these tuner do not handle more than 100W power, the TS-480HX reduces it's output power permanently to 100w! During the tuning process the power is reduced to 10W as usual.

NEDSP-1061 DSP-Module

The NEDSP-1061 employs the same DSP technology as the basic PCB module. In addition it has an integral microcontroller, connected to a small keyboard assembly. The microcontroller and keyboard provide single button operation of all the module’s functions. The button switches the noise cancellation on/off and changes the DSP noise cancellation level. In addition the unit stores the last used DSP level, so when power is reapplied the unit will default to the last used setting.
