Aside from the FT-DX9000 the FT-DX5000 is the flag ship of Yaesu shortwave transceivers. An excellent main receiver, working as a double superhet with 9MHz 1. IF is complemented with an independant second receiver (triple superhet, 40MHz 1.IF). This concept is perfect for the demanding DX chaser or contester, whether at home or in a DX location. The main receiver achieves top values, for example a non-blocking dynamic range of up to 112 dB, with a 3rd order IP of 40dB. These superb values are also independently verified by Sherwood Engineering Inc. (USA), who list the FT-DX5000 at the top position in their receiver list.
Yaesu arrives at such excellent receiver values by using numerous roofing filters. The FT-DX5000 includes the following roofing filters: 600Hz, 3, 6 and 15kHz. The model FT-Dx5000MP has a further 300Hz filter installed, which can be retrofitted to other models as well.
The FT-DX5000 is supplied with a built-in 230V AC power supply, operation with 13.8V is not possible. The power supply has enough 'juice' for the MOSFET finals, which run on 48V with a very good linearity. The max. output power of all FT-DX5000 models is 200W (75W in class A operation).
FT-DX5000
Last but not least both receivers are supported by a state of the art IF DSP. This system allows to set nearly any IF bandwidth for any mode. Audio peak filters raise and limit the audio, perfect for much better intelligibility, variable automatic or manual notch filters suppress interferences. Further the IF DSP is used for noise reduction, a perfect transmit modulation and much more.
The FT-DX5000 is offered by Yaesu in three model variants. The missing components from one to next model can be retrofitted:
The Station Monitor SM-5000 is included with the top models FT-DX5000MP and FT-DX5000D, the other model can use the SM-5000 as well, as an option. This monitor offers a graphical spectrum view of the currently selected band. This is very helpful for a quick overview of activity on a band, perfect for contesting and breaking that pile-up. Additionally the SM-5000 offers two built-in loudspeakers, one for each receiver.

µ-Tune Kits are external filters for the bands 160m, 80 + 40m and 30 + 20m. These filters work with a motor driven coil and achieve a very high Q, again increasing the strong signal handling capabilities of the transceiver. The bandfilters require some assembly before use. All required cables are included. Size 330 x 120 x 120mm, weight 2.6kg.

The DMU-2000 is an optional device for the FT-DX5000, FT-2000 and FT-950 and offers some very useful functions. For operation of the DMU-2000 a SVGA monitor is required (not included). Furthermore some functions require a computer keyboard (not included).
Note: Before starting to use the DMU-2000 the supplied scope unit must be installed in the FT-DX5000 transceiver. If required we can install that board for you.
